I have personally recovered from depression and anxiety, and like to share my story. My journey started at the age of three, when my father died. This launched me into a thirty-year cycle of depression, anxiety and fear-based thinking. I have fully recovered from this mental and physical burden, and now I'm ready to teach you how to overcome. In this group, I will teach you about all of the skills essential to your recovery.
This is a therapeutic method of cognitive behavioral therapy. It works on our present, future, and past thoughts and experiences. We cannot change the past, but we can begin to understand how our thoughts and experiences hold us back from feeling well and prevents us from leading a full and active life. "We become what we think about ourselves, the world, and others in our lives." Often our thoughts become negative, repetitive patterns that cause us to feel anxious or fearful. These thoughts can lead to depression and feelings that often immobilize us. We will uncover the core issues for anxiety, fear, depression, and stress, and begin replacing them new truths and current realities.
Sometimes we move through our days with ease. Other times we become anxious or fearful and stressed wondering how we are going to get from one day to the next. I am here to tell you that you do not need to live like that any longer!
I use a cognitive behavioral therapy approach that has been used for over 25 years successfully! It has helped thousands of people understand why and how their anxiety and depression developed, and how to reduce or eliminate it. You will learn the root causes of these feelings and how it can affect you both mentally and physically. You will develop coping skills and techniques that will help you through stressful or normal anxiety producing situations. You will learn to understand your anxious and depressive producing triggers, while becoming more compassionate and powerful within and feeling more relaxed, calmed, and in control.
You will learn to create healthy boundaries with others, especially the “crazy makers” in our lives, and we all have them! Developing realistic expectations for yourself and others will create a calmer life. You will learn to let go of past regrets, guilt, and shame. This will be necessary for personal growth. You will also learn steps to end and reduce panic attacks.
The skills and growth you will learn is so effective and broad-based that they would help anyone acquire healthy methods for dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, fear, and depression. These skills are available in individual work as well as in groups. Groups begin monthly on Monday nights, 6-8:00 p.m. Individual appointments can be scheduled for days or evenings.
Anxiety can help you cope with danger by making you alert or careful. However, when anxiety becomes overwhelming and affects daily life, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health problems in the United States. They affect about 18 percent of adults each year according to the National Institute of Mental Health. If not treated, anxiety disorders can grow worse. Research shows that individual therapy along with group support can help relieve anxious symptoms quicker than talk therapy alone. That is why I offer an intensive 8 week group for affective treatment, knowledge, and the skills needed to begin overcoming anxiety and depressive thinking.
Depression is a medical illness that affects a person's body, feelings, thoughts and behavior. It is NOT character weakness! We all experience bouts of the blues or periods of sadness now and then. However, if these feelings last more than 2 weeks or disrupt life, a person may have major depression. This is a painful condition that can last for months or years.
Over 20 million Americans suffer from depression. More than 80 percent of people with depression have another medical condition, such as chronic pain, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. Only about half of adults seek treatment.
The good news is anxiety and depression are the most commonly cured mental disorders! I used a treatment called CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) to help people understand the cause of these disorders and help bring them to recovery. CBT in combination with group support can help you achieve the healthy life you deserve!
